Even though there is a tremendous amount of information about weight loss, the same diet myths continue to circulate. Not simple myths or little white lies we tell ourselves to make it through the day, these are huge myths that mean the difference between weight loss success and weight loss failure. Understanding these myths can help you develop the right attitude to permanently achieve your goals.

1. I Must Completely Immerse Myself In the Latest Fad Diet to Lose Weight…

Sometimes, when just starting out on your dieting journey, you’ll want to dive in with this determined attitude. That’s not a problem—in fact, a good attitude is necessary for dieting success—it only becomes a problem when you decide you’re going to make drastic whole life changes in a short span of time. These types of all or nothing dieters will pick out the most arduous diet plan which would be impossible to maintain on an ongoing basis.

Before starting this diet, gung-ho dieters will scour their cupboards, fridge, and pantries for anything that does not fit the plan and throw it away. The idea is to become the perfect dieter, and it’s usually the case, but only for the first few days (possibly a couple of weeks) until the diet becomes far too overwhelming.

Then, at the first sign of a slip up, the world has come crumbling down and the diet is ruined, they’re a failure, and so the diet ends. In a blurry haze of despair and regret, the binging begins and all the weight that dropped off will be regained and sometimes even more.

If the above sounds like you, then you need to ask yourself: Do you really want to lose weight permanently, or do you prefer the yo-yo dieting method? The way to success is in moderation. I learned this lesson the hard way, but you don’t have to: http://www.slenderized.net/read/fat-loss/

2. I Must Sacrifice All the Good Foods I Enjoy to Lose Weight…

Another common diet myth is that you must sacrifice all the foods you love in order to success. As a result, you end up depriving yourself of the foods you love the most while you’re trying to achieve your ideal weight.

You’ll probably lose weight with such a method, but what happens when it’s time to maintain your goal? Since you didn’t learn how to moderate those bad diet foods, you’re likely to go spiraling out of control once you’ve achieve your ideal weight. Then you get to watch as the weight slowly climbs back onto your body and the cycle will repeat itself again.

It is far better to learn how to eat those yummy foods in moderation while you’re dieting, so you’ll be better able to maintain those good eating habits long after you’ve achieved your ideal weight. Remember, it all comes back to enjoying good things in moderation.

3. I Can Lose All This Weight Virtually Overnight…

Thanks to many late night infomercials, our society has come to believe that weight loss is nothing more than a weekend adventure that one can do in one’s spare time. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work like that. It likely took years to put all that weight on, there’s no way it’s all coming off overnight (unless you get liposuction), no matter what that young slender peppy lady tells you.

It’s important that you set realistic and achievable weight loss goals. That way, when you don’t miraculously lose ten pounds the next day, you won’t be disappointed in yourself only to drown your sorrows in cookie dough.

Some reasonable weight loss goals to consider are losing one to two pounds per week or losing five to ten pounds per month with proper diet and exercise. Once you’ve contemplated the best goal for you, take a moment to write it down in a diet journal so that you won’t lose sight of it.

If you’ve subscribed to any of these myths about weight loss, don’t worry because now you know. Learn from your past mistakes as well as your successes and work to develop a weight loss plan that’s ideal for you.
