NASCAR Nationwide Series – Logano Now in 54th Place!

The winner for today’s race was teen sensation Joey Logano. His victory in the Meijer 300 at the Kentucky Speedway was quite phenomenal and moves him up eight positions to 54th position!

Yes I know, I am supposed to write about the changes in the Nationwide Series positions and 54th position is not very important, but how can we ignore the story about Logano. I guess I do need to first write about the series top ten standings.

Truly the big story for the series standings is Brad Keselowski moving up three positions to second overall. Clint Bowyer remains in first place, 170 points ahead of Keselowski. A win a week ago in Nashville and a fourth place finish today has Keselowski moving up the series and making his boss Dale Earnhardt Jr. very proud.

David Reutimann slipped a position and is now in third. Carl Edwards remains in fourth while Kyle Busch dropped two positions to fifth. David Ragan moved up one position to sixth while Mike Bliss dropped a position to seventh. Ragan and Bliss actually have the exact number of points but the tie goes to Ragan with a better overall performance after 16 races. Mike Wallace and David Stremme swapped positions with Wallace now in eighth and Stremme in ninth. Jason Leffler remains in tenth place.

Okay, back to Logano. Perhaps you can recall where you were 21 days after your 18th birthday, perhaps you don’t want to remember, but could you imagine the thrill of standing on the podium of a NASCAR Nationwide Series race. And let’s don’t forget it’s only Logano’s third race. Logano was also on the pole for this race, and his second in the past two races.

Joe Gibbs must be grinning ear-to-ear with knowing what a future star he has in Logano. Now if Tony Stewart decides to play hardball for 2009, do you think Gibbs will have a difficult time filling his seat with Logano?

Moving up to 54th position is not that important in the overall standings in the Nationwide Series, but watch for Logano to continue to make his impact during the year. Lastly, I promise to never use the phrase teen sensation when describing a NASCAR series driver again.
