Vancouver British Columbia Day Trip April 25, 2008
Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It’s one of the world’s most livable cities. Vancouver has so much to offer including the 2010 Olympics which will be held in Whistler.
If you are looking for a trip across the boarder from the US, you will have lots to explore, even for a day. Stanley Park is one of the largest urban parks in the world and the first park in Vancouver. It is close to the downtown area and host a multitude of summer events and shows. There is art in the park, theater at night, walking trails, dancing in the park, fine dining, the Vancouver Aquarium, picnic areas, beaches, and a host of nature lovers delights. If you love gardening you will delight in the many botanical gardens blooming in the spring and summer.
My family is from Vancouver Island and we have always enjoyed taking the sky-train around the city and into adjoining cities that make up the lower mainland. Just the sky-train in itself can be an adventure. It rides above the cities and the trains have no conductor. It was built for Expo 85 and since has expanded to Surrey BC. Take the train at night and see the lights of the city. This outing costs only a few dollars and it gives a whole evening of entertainment.
If whale watching is in your budget, take a day tour and see the orcas. There is also whale watching in Victoria which is located on Vancouver Island. If you love to fish or if you would like to try it, many fishing tours are available.
You can also visit the art galleries and science world. There is also Playland, a thrill seekers dream. In the late summer it opens the PNE, with exhibits of old world charm. The carnival is huge and has endless activities for the whole family.
Capilano Suspension Bridge is suspended 450 ft above Capilano River and was originally built in 1889. This adventure is just minutes from the city. The huge cedars and fir trees, the bridge overlooks are a wonder anyone will love. Don’t forget to take your camera, the adventure has just begun…even for a day!
