The idea of regrowing your own hair has been an idea of the past surrounded by gizmos, self-proclaimed promotions, and unfortunately by and large, unsuccessful results. However, most of these products were never cleared or approved by the FDA to promote hair regrowth. To date, the only products approved for hair loss treatment are Rogaine and Minoxidil, which are topical creams. (There is also an oral pill form as well).
While these FDA-cleared products have been proven to promote hair growth, one of the drawbacks is that they require daily applications. Because of this, there is room for people to forget, over/under use, and run out of the supply.Actually, these drawbacks are not unique to only hair loss treatments, but to all products which require daily regimens.
For those people who are suffering hair loss, and want to do something about it, but are seeking an alternative to daily regimens, there is now an alternative. In 2007, the FDA cleared Laser Therapy to be used to promote hair growth in males with androgenetic alopecia, who have Norwood Hamilton Classifications of what is called IIa to V and Fitzpatrick Skin Types I to IV. (Female studies are underway).
The use of Laser Therapy was actually clear by the FDA in 2001, not as a hair loss treatment solution, but as a treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome. The therapy uses "cold lasers", which does not burn the skin, but penetrates it and promotes tissue repair and healing.
A current regimen using laser therapy to promote the regrowth of hair is far easier to abide by then a daily regimen of the aforementioned treatment products. It involves the following:
1. 20 minute sessions, 2x per week for 6 weeks 2. Once per week for 10 weeks 3. Twice per month for 2 months 4. Once per month for 6 months
Sounds pretty simple, huh? Well there is a small catch. Because this is a relatively "new" procedure, not all facilities provide this type of service, and even centers in metropolitan areas may not carry it.
However, if you are in the northeast of the US, a Boston hair loss treatment center called 'Hair Begin' actually specializes in this form of hair loss treatment. After undergoing this type of treatment you will probably find that Laser Therapy is convenient and quick, and can prevent the downsides of daily regimens when administered by professionals.
