Working at home has lots of benefits, but too often people fall into traps that keep them from becoming successful.

In this article I will discuss 3 syndromes to avoid so you can have a rewarding stay at home career.   The first syndrome to avoid is the fairytale syndrome.  This syndrome is probably the most common.  The fairytale syndrome usually develops very quickly once you start working from home.

It's a feeling of freedom from the 9-5 job.  Now you will have all this free time to do the things you want to do, and magically overnight the business will just take off on its own.  You will easily make tons of money and retire at a young age.

Let me tell you right now, for the majority of home based businesses this scenario just doesn't happen. For a lot of us this is why we started working at home, this dream scenario.

Some of it can be true, the freedom of the 9-5 job, scheduling your family life around your work, and making lots of money.  Unfortunately we don't have a fairy godmother to wave her magic wand and make it all happen.

It takes dedication, persistence and hard work to run a successful home based business.  Look at any CEO of a major corporation they have all worked long and hard to get where they are at in life. You should view your home based business no different.

The second syndrome is the fireworks syndrome.  This usually develops at the onset of a home based business. Initially this person takes off with great passion in the business.  Lots of flash and noise similar to fireworks.  But quickly the energy fizzles out and so does the business.

Avoiding the firework syndrome is difficult.  You have to be prepared going into the business knowing it takes time to grow a business.  It helps to set goals, both short-term and long-term.

Finding a mentor to help you sustain that energy and drive is also a good solution to extinguish the firework syndrome.

Finally there is the "Oh woe is me" syndrome.  As you could have guessed this person becomes easily upset or depressed when things don't go as planned.

This syndrome usually develops after the business has been up and running for awhile.  When things get difficult this person feels sorry for them-self or blames their misfortune on someone or something else.

Again, no one said having you own home based business was going to be easy, and if they did they were lying to you.  Obstacles or bumps in the road are a part of life and business.

There are ways to learn from them to make your business stronger.  A successful business owner finds a way to stay positive and focused on the long-term goals of the business.

You are now aware these syndromes are out there lurking.  Keep an eye out for the symptoms.  If you can avoid these syndromes your home based business is on its way to success.
