The Standard Poodle is an intelligent and playful dog with loving behavior. And just like other Poodles, they are elegant, dignified and carry themselves proudly, as if distinct and superior from other breeds of dog. The Standard Poodle is similar to other types of Poodles in variety of ways but they tend to be calmer. They like and need to be with people always and easily get bored when left alone.

Dogs in order to survive, need to be cared for properly. Caring for a dog does not simply means grooming to make that dog appear beautiful in the eyes of human. Caring for a dog involves a lot of areas and needs of a dog that must be provided by the owner. One of the most important part of Standard Poodle care is proper nutrition. Standard Poodle should be given high-grade dog food, more particularly food with meat as the first ingredient. Puppies need to be fed four times a day but should be reduced to at least twice a day as the puppy age. Feeding your puppy numerous small meals a day helps in preventing the deadly bloat. Exercise is also important. Standard Poodles need to be exercised daily. But make sure that they get enough rest as well as fresh water after exercise and playtime. Take time to socialize your puppy. A puppy that is not properly socialized tends to develop behavior problems such as aggression. Poodles are very smart and easy to train but still obedience should begin at an early age.

Poodles have excessively dense coat that requires clipping every six to eight weeks. And despite non-shedding, many hours of brushing is needed to prevent tangles and mats. If the charge of a professional groomer is much for your pocket to bear, you can groom your Poodle yourself. In addition to being less expensive, grooming your Poodle at home is the best way for you and your dog to bond and enjoy. Find a professional groomer who is willing to teach you or you can learn how to groom by yourself.

This aforementioned Poodle care are indeed the main factors that contribute to the health condition of a pet. But the care can still be strengthened if the dog is prevented from various diseases, minor or serious. Have your Poodle vaccinated for diseases against parvovirus, distemper, rabies and others required by your local law. Discuss this to your vet.
