Vaginal Yeast Infection, or Candida, is very common in women. Here are a few basic questions that are the most important questions asked.
How can I know if I may have a yeast infection?
Do you experience burning or itching in the vagina and/or surrounding skin (called vulva)? Redness and/or swelling? Is the skin or vulva tender and sensitive to even the slightest of contact? Have you experienced a thick, white and odorless vaginal discharge? During and after peeing do you feel a burning sensation in and around your vagina? Is there pain and discomfort during sexual intercourse?
How would I have gotten a yeast infection?
First, yeast infection is an internal fungal problem. It simply cannot be permanently eliminated using medications or creams that can be harmful, working superficially, failing to deal with the source that triggers the formation of the fungus in the first place. And realizing yeast infection is an internal problem and that with many chronic conditions; most likely there is not just one single cause. Here are a few:
Poor diet and eating habits, physical and mental stress, lack of proper rest and sleep, reduced immunity levels, menstrual periods, birth control pills, antibiotics and steroids are among the most common problem areas.
What can I do now?
To get permanent healing from yeast infection, take the list of causes above and discipline yourself to change your poor diet and eating habits. Eat lots of yogurt! Eat fresh organic fruits and vegetables such as broccoli and potatoes, cranberry juice, lean meats, poultry and fish, whole grains and cereals, olive oil, nuts, and flax seeds. Avoid these: saturated fats, processed foods, most dairy products and margarine, sugar, caffeine, junk fast foods, sodas, and alcohol.
Are there any all natural remedies for yeast infections?
There are all naturals, organics, botanicals and homemade remedies that are extremely useful against yeast infections. Women and men alike are turning to the health benefits of all natural remedies for yeast infections, avoiding over-the-counter medications and creams that work superficially and fail to tackle the root factors. Natural yeast infection remedies heal yeast infection using extracts of nature and natural dietary practices.
Are there any homemade remedies that I can do at home now while I change my poor health habits?
LOL Thought you'd never ask!
Yogurt is the choice of do-it-yourselfers everywhere. Yogurt contains Lactobacillus Acidophilus, a bacterium that happens to be found also in healthy vaginas. Acidophilus kills the yeast infection by producing hydrogen peroxide. Simply apply it directly to the vulva and gently inject some into the vagina by taking a tampon and dip it into yogurt. Insert into your vagina at least twice a day. Continue for a day or two more after your symptoms have gone away. Many women say this is soothing compared to the burnings of a yeast infection. Note here that if you do it, be sure you use plain, unflavored yogurt with no added sugar. Make sure that it contains live acidophilus cultures (available in natural foods stores). Putting a few drops of tea tree oil on your yogurt tampon provides relief too. If you are the parent of a young child with a yeast infection and don't want to try suppositories or strong drugs, this may be your best option. Again, eat plenty of yogurt as the idea being that some of the acidophilus will make it through your digestive system and some people report it wards off yeast infections with good success.
Anything else I can do naturally?
Yes, avoid deodorant sanitary pads and tampons, perfumes, bubble baths, colored toilet paper. These can cause irritation to the vaginal tissues. Wear cotton underwear and pantyhose with a cotton crotch and avoid tight underwear or clothes made of synthetic fibers. Change out of exercise clothes or wet swimsuits as soon as possible and dry your affected body parts before changing into fresh dry clothes.
