HOW TO THRIVE IN 2005 AS A SINGLE
David G. Brooke 4/15/2005

Whether you chose to be single or the choice was made for you, here you are facing life without a partner. At least for now. So how best to prepare yourself for the journey down the road to a fulfilling relationship? Well, it starts with the understanding that you have got to do the "work" on yourself to get clear with who you are. A quick personal inventory is a good way to identify the areas that need attention, and in the proper order of priority. Once the areas are established, and a plan is put in place to make the necessary changes, you are in a position to start looking for your new partner.
We attract who we are. Therefore, if you want to attract a person that has their "stuff" together, then make sure yours is together first. Another way to look at it is make sure your head is screwed on straight first. As you list out your personal inventory, look at the five main areas of your life: physical, mental, career & financial, relationships, and spiritual. Prioritizing is critical because some areas may be just fine and others need immediate attention.
The course I teach on "10 Ways to Thrive in 2005" includes 10 easy steps for success. For the purpose of this article we’ll discuss three areas.
1. Get in Shape: Preferably the best shape you’ve ever been in. When your physical body is in alignment with the rest of your "inventory" it is much easier to project a natural confidence and a healthy approach to life. Healthy people attract healthy people. Understand that diet and exercise are the two main keys to a healthy physical body. Additionally, it really helps to listen to motivational tapes or read during your exercising. All of these things will give you a natural level of confidence. Natural confidence cannot be faked. Remember, it is never too late to get in the best shape of your life.
2. Save More & Spend Less: Nothing will weigh you down or deflate natural confidence faster than excessive debt. Commit to reducing or eliminating your debts completely. The amount of anxiety that debt causes is enormous, and is very debilitating. There are a lot of resources available from debt consolidation services to books that can help with this very important challenge. Once accomplished, your energy will soar and your anxiety and stress will be substantially reduced. Combine that with your natural confidence and you will become a very desirable commodity.
3. Commit to Your Avocation: Do something every week (preferably every day) that gets you closer to your passion. We all have a passion that seems to constantly get pushed to the back burner. We’re just too busy. Make it a goal to do something toward the attainment of that passion or avocation. Make a phone call, take a class, do some research on the internet, or just do one thing that starts you moving in the direction of what really excites you. If you do what you love, it is almost impossible to fail. More importantly, by getting closer to your passion you will be more fulfilled and again will increase your natural confidence.
This is an example of three ways to help you thrive and not just survive. As you continue work on your personal inventory, you will see significant changes in your ability to attract who you are. Opposites attract? I don’t know. It may very well be that success in a relationship comes from "birds of a feather flocking together" Good luck in your journey.
