Is there any such thing as a naturally bad dog? Mostly it is a bad handler. The feeling is very irritating when a dog jumps on you and puts paw prints over everything you're wearing. It is just as bad when your neighbor's dog finds your front yard an inviting place to soil. Are these bad dogs? Perhaps, but they are only as bad as the kids next door who have never been given a good upbringing. What else can you expect from pets and children who come from homes where the adults do not do their duties?

The dog should be given pre-set behavioral limits when inside or when it is taken to public places. Inexperienced owners would be smart to find a dog trainer who can teach them how to properly handle the animal without breaking its spirit. Your vet office or local pet store can put you in touch with trainers who hold classes with pets and their owners, but another option is to look for online help.

These training programs include lessons where owners are taught how to control their pets. At times, trainers will admit it's easier to train the dog than the owner! Dogs need to practice when they are taught to walk with a leash when they are taken out, and for this they need to walk around in a yard or park. While barking may be common behavior, it is nevertheless infuriating to both owner and people who live close by. When they bark, they are simply communicating with us; a reprimand might give them the wrong signal and confuse them.

It is usually lack of food, attention, something threatening or the need for water that makes a dog bark. Burglars get scared when a dog barks; remember this the next time you punish your dog for barking because it may not be a wise decision. It is not a good idea letting your puppy bark, even during play if you are likely to shout at him when he barks as an adult.

Any trainer can teach you skills on how to get the desired conduct from your puppy using the carrot as opposed to the stick. You need to know how to reward your pet so they get the correct message and repeat the desired behavior or cease the less desirable traits. Remember that you can not coach a dog to adapt to certain behaviors which are not part of his genetic make-up. To make your pet follow specific behavioral training, you should consider choosing one from a breed which can give you what you need. Training a dog requires perseverance, patience and of course a lot of love and kindness.
