Are you considering buying a yacht or a boat for the season ahead?

Here I will attempt to provide you with some top buying advice, providing you with a guide to some great tips for the subsequent purchase of your next yacht, boat or marine craft.

One of the most common mistakes that people make when buying a new or used yacht or boat is not carefully thinking through entirely, upon all the reasons just exactly What They Really Want from their marine craft purchase.

You want to be asking yourself some commonsense questions first, so that you buy exactly the marine vessel, which is going to fit your needs as Perfectly As Possible. If you do this, not only will you perhaps save yourself lots of money, but by following these guidelines, it will aid greatly to your overall enjoyment whilst out on the water not just for yourself, but also for your family and friends.

So the first question you need to ask yourself is this: What do I really want from my yacht or boat? And too, what is the intended purpose of my yacht or boat purchase?

If you can establish this in your mind first and foremost, you are halfway there. One of the best things to do and why not do this right now, go on, grab yourself a pen and paper whilst you are in the right frame of mind, and write down the answers at the top of the page the previous two questions, then underneath write down all of your answers. There is no right or wrong way of doing this, it is not a test, this exercise just helps you to really clarify very easily in your minds eye, exactly what you are looking for and your overall purpose for purchasing a new or used yacht or boat, rather than just rushing out on a whim, to buy the first seemingly great deal to come along.

Other questions you might want to ask yourself include: How many people on average will be in my boating party? Where will I be using my yacht or boat? Is the yacht or boat easy to trailer from one location to the next? How easy is the yacht or boat to handle? What about storage? Are you planning to keep your yacht or boat on a permanent mooring? Is this mooring tidal and if so, is it a full tidal mooring? If moored on the water, how do you intend to reach your yacht or boat mooring? Does the yacht or boat have an engine, is this an outboard or an inboard, how easy or difficult is this to maintain and/or buy parts for if something goes wrong, and what about maintenance of the engine?

If a smaller marine craft which will not be permanently moored, and you intend to tow it on a trailer from location to location, are you really happy and confident with towing a long vehicle? What about on the road, fuel consumption of your vehicle in miles per gallon? Will this seriously be affected? Might it be more cost effective to simply rent a yacht or a boat instead, for the time that you intend to use it? What about slipway charges, have you placed this figure into the equation? Are you prepared for how long it takes to get a yacht or a boat into the water from a slipway and back out again onto your trailer and vehicle?
