As adults we make hundreds of decisions every day, most of the time without even giving it much thought. Now look at your child.

He's been observing the world around him and noticing that things tend to happen to him whether he likes it or not while other people get to control more of the things that happen to them.

His quickly developing sense of fairness tells him this is not right, so he starts making his own decisions. His new favorite word is "NO". He even says "no" to things he wants. At this point he hits what most people call the "terrible two's"

Options

There are several options when it comes to potty training pants and it can be helpful to have some of all of them on hand.

Pull-ups

These are essentially diapers fashioned to be pulled up and down like underwear. The advantage is they are very absorbent and can be worn at night when potty training is more difficult to maintain. They can also be worn if your child will be out somewhere with limited access to a bathroom. The sides are designed to be torn away so it can be removed like a diaper in the event of a poopy mess.

Training Pants

These are designed like underwear with several layers of absorbent material in case your child wets.

Underwear

This is a miniature version of regular underwear. Most are designed with cartoon characters or other designs that appeal to kids. These will most likely be your child's favorite because of the pictures.

Plastic Pants

These are plastic covers to be worn over training pants or underwear when a little extra protection is needed.

Buying potty training pants can be an important rite of passage for your child. Many children do very well with potty training when they get to feel like they are part of the process and the decision-making. Letting your child pick out his favorite potty training pants is a powerful signal that you respect his ability to choose
