Many parents are great fans of potty training chairs. Others have no use for them. When you get ready to start potty training your child, you will need to decide if using a potty training chair is right for you.
Chair vs. Seat vs. Regular Toilet
There is a debate between the practicality of potty training chairs and potty training seats. The logic seems to be that since children will have to eventually use the grown up toilet anyway why not get them used to it right away. Although this argument does have its merits there are also a few drawbacks to this method.
Fear
Many children are afraid of the regular toilet, especially if they've had a bad experience such as falling in or off of it. Potty training is not going to be easy if your child is terrified of sitting on the toilet. Potty seats help a child feel more secure since it is smaller and provides more stability for their little bottoms.
Safety
The regular toilet can be too high for a little one to sit on safely by himself. A potty seat makes the toilet even higher and harder to access. Children using potty seats or the regular seat must be supervised at all times.
Potty Chairs
Potty Chairs are easy for children to reach. They are built low enough that a child can sit and stand easily and safely. A child should still be supervised, though because the chair can tip if the child leans to one side.
Potty chairs are also convenient, especially for one-bathroom homes. With a potty chair that can be moved from room to room, there won't be the issue of your child having an accident because someone else was in the bathroom when he needed to go.
If you decide to use a potty chair, let your child go with you to pick one out. There are many styles of potty chairs, some with cartoon characters on them that are sure to appeal to kids. Your child may be more likely to use a potty chair he picked out himself and is special just for him.
