This hardly applies to just marketing, but I still feel it is an important detail that many people do not pay enough attention to.

Stay organized.

It sounds obvious and it sounds as if every company would already be doing it, but many times I see marketing departments that seem unfocused and meandering. Part of this might amount to trying to focus on too many projects at the same time, which only spreads out resources so far they become too thin to do any good on any of those projects. Other times it is just a matter of having an initially unfocused goal.

No matter what the issue, you are only going to hurt yourself by remaining so largely unfocused. For this article I’m going to focus on custom poster printing in order to demonstrate my point. The reason why I chose this particular form of marketing is because poster printing is one of the more simplistic styles of marketing. If you cannot remain focused while making posters how will you manage with the more complicated catalogs or brochures?

Before anything else, make sure that you’re going to focus on only your poster printing until you have the project done. This way you can give it your full attention and make a much better product than you would have if your efforts were split among multiple projects.

Okay, the first thing you need to do is decide exactly what your overall goal is going to be with the posters. Is this a new product release, an upcoming sale, or just getting your name out there for people to read?

If you do not know what the focus of your custom poster printing is going to be you won’t be able to create a cohesive advertisement.

Along with this you need to know what kind of budget you will be working with along with the general scope of the project. You don’t want to realize after the fact that your budget can’t support your scope.

Next you need to know exactly who your audience is in order to best pick the kind of images you will need. Ask yourself what kind of color schemes or pictures will best serve this particular audience.

Make sure that everyone working on the posters is aware of what everyone else is doing. For posters you might only have a single person taking care of the task, but when you get to the more complicated marketing materials where you have several people, you will need to make sure communication is strong or else things will quickly fall apart.

What a lot of this boils down to is making sure that you are focused on only one marketing project at once, and that you have taken the time to ask and answer all the questions you need to in order to know what your goal is. With proper planning any marketing can be effectively implemented, and without planning even the best forms of marketing can fall flat on their faces.
