Discolouration of the teeth can be a cause of many things; drinking coffee, red wine, neglect or just the gradually darkening as you get older. Many people find such discolouration or yellowing of the teeth very distressing, and they are often feeling that their overall appearance has been effected by it.

White teeth is something many people aspire to have but unfortunately cannot obtain purely through their own lifestyle choices or simply because of the teeth they were born with. There are many dental care products on the market which claim to whiten teeth, and many home remedies which also make the same claim but for less the expense.

Products you can buy that may help you remove stains from the teeth include whitening toothpastes, or whitening solutions. Pearl Drops is a brand of tooth whitening products which is very affordable with very good results. Pearl Drops was originally developed by a dentist to gently help remove plaque and brush away dull stains left by certain drinks, food and tobacco, to leave teeth feeling really clean and smooth. With fluoride to strengthen tooth enamel and protect against decay. These solutions are much more cost effective than the treatments many people opt to get at the dentist, veneers can be an incredibly expensive procedure involving the filing down of the teeth and affixing a new layer of enamel on the tooth. After a length of time the artificial veneer will need to be replaced, therefore even if you can afford the veneers when you have them initially fitted you must consider whether you will be able to afford the replacements in 10 years time. Professional bleaching by the dentist is also an option, however again this procedure can be highly expensive and often leads to heightened sensitivity of the teeth.

Many people often try home remedies as a means of whitening teeth, many of the whitening products on the market contain bicarbonate of soda therefore brushing it onto the teeth will help remove stains, mixing bicarbonate of soda with hydrogen peroxide will help increase effectiveness, however it does not guarantee whiter teeth it only acts as a stain remover. Other home remedies include rubbing strawberries or the underside of orange peel on your teeth, it is very unlikely that doing this will make significant difference but given that it will cost a lot less than over the counter remedies therefore it is always worth a try.
