Once upon a time, I worked with some very strange bedfellows. Their names were "Madness", "Insanity", "Vanity", "I Could Care Less", and "Please Don't Ask Me." I'm sure that millions of people can relate to the information in this article.

First, there was "Madness", the employment queen hiring bee. "Madness" was a senior recruiter for a major temporary agency. She thought she was good; but, her only standing order was to provide a warm body to fill financial positions for "Insanity". It didn't matter that "Insanity" was an egotistical, arrogant, impatient, indecisive, all knowing, self serving and undeserving Finance Director (should I even rate him that highly)! Unfortunately "Madness" didn't care one bit about the employees she hired for "Insanity", despite the fact that previous employees complained about "Insanity." "Madness" was only concerned about the monthly income she received from "Insanity." Too bad, that even after several phone calls from several temporary employees that "Madness" never understood and accepted that "Insanity" was the major source of every problem! I guess that money really is more important than ethics and morals…too bad for "Madness!"

Next, there was "Insanity!" He was a real joke. He lived, breathed and will ultimately die connected to his precious PC, Laptop, Blackberry, Cell, Land Line, and E-mail connections. His life was numbers and his thought process was like none ever seen! After all, he was the ultimate financial robot….no feelings, no concern, no discussion, no feedback, nothing but coldness and impassion! Being totally impersonal totally fit his ego which was greater than the sum of his overall attitude and performance! He knew every answer to every question before he even considered asking and ultimately wasting the time of his employees who were too overworked to care. He was an expert at assigning and expecting completion of tasks without training or information, scheduling and conducting worthless meetings to discuss what you could not complete, and for him…knowledge was power. He thrived on ridicule, demeaning people, and playing the I'M OK, your NOT OK life position every minute of the day. How sad, that such a brilliant mind was really so totally worthless, in application. The only answers you received, if at all, were based on the questions you asked…nothing more nothing less. If you asked the wrong question, you received the partially correct answer. It was up to you to determine the proper question to his asinine requests to see if you got the answer right! You could never do anything right in his eyes…no matter what you did!

Then, there was "Vanity." "Vanity" was a real piece of work! The problem with "Vanity was that she was so enamored by an inflated self worth and, happy with her paycheck and position that she was afraid to stand up to "Insanity" (even when he was in the wrong). She was an expert of slamming her door, continually cursing "Insanity", and then lining up outside his door for more. Employees had no respect for her and referred to her as Insanities little Lap Dog! She licked up everything he gave and came back for more…Although she was in a supervisory position, she never knew the answer to your question, didn't have time to help, or was to busy shooting the breeze to care about helping. Now that two of the three temporary employees are gone, "Vanity" might have to get off her rump and actually perform. Now that should be a sight to see!
