Be it in school or the workplace, setting goals is a process you have seen or used yourself. Why does one need to have a goal? How can one achieve a goal? Have you ever wondered how would your life be different if you have set that goal you want so badly and achieved it? These are some very important questions. Many people experience difficulty when it comes to aspiring a goal and for some others the very goal setting process may seem jaw- breaking. If you want to achieve a goal, its vital that you know exactly what you want, why you want it and how you are going to get it.

The initial process of goal setting can be extremely confusing for some since at any point of time a person has a number of hopes, wishes and objectives. It takes a certain understanding of what you really want to prioritize your goals accordingly in order to reach them. Hence, as soon as you zeroed in on your goal, divert your attention to it immediately and start working towards it.

So why do you think people resort to goal setting? That's because goal setting is another phrase to explain personal planning. Just as you need to nurture your plans dedicatedly, so do you need to nourish your goals. Make goal setting a routine and improve your chances of succeeding. When you set a goal, you actually become convinced about what you'd like to achieve. This conviction increases confidence and hence, concentration. Since it is another way of increasing concentration, high-achievers are all known to resort to goal setting techniques.

So what are the key factors to take note of when setting a goal?

1.Set a definite date- When you set a goal, also set the date by which you would like to achieve it. Until and unless you work within the confines of a time frame you will not be able to attain your goal. This rule is the same for both short- term and long- term goals. When there is a set date you have thought about pending success. This drives you on and you strive until you finally attain your goal.

2.Intermingle short and long term goals- If you ever decide for a long- term goal you need something to urge you during the short term as well. Short- term goals can actually drive you towards your long- term goal. In the period you have chosen to achieve your long-term goal, try to achieve a short-term goal every single day.

3.One step at a time. Be consistent in taking action towards your goals. Do not overburden yourself with too many goals at once. As a guideline, strive to attain 5 goals at any point of time. Move towards them steadily and you will see results faster.

4.Creating a system to reach your goals. It takes more than just planning to reach your goals. Discipline and massive action are the ultimate keys to your victory. As you discover what needs to be done to reach your goals, create a routine and follow it rigorously to have your goals fulfill. Opt to bring changes to your system of routines only when the situation calls, else it might just delay your achievement.
