Most people who think of Egypt think of antiquities, but Egypt offers much more. Certainly it is a prime location to see our great heritage from the ancient world, including Pyramids and wonderful temples, but it is also part of the Holy Land, and tours to Christian and other religious monuments are popular. Yet Egypt also offers nature and desert treks, great scuba diving and even golf, fishing and birding expeditions. One may choose to relax on the wondrous Egypt Red Sea or Sinai coasts, take in the high culture of Cairo, or even leisurely float down the Egyptian Nile on a luxurious river boat.

Despite virtually continuous excavations for some two centuries, much of the area remains to be excavated. The site stretches six kilometres from north to south and more than 1.5 kilometres across at its widest point.

The Nile River, along which most of the people of Egypt lived, stretches more then 4000 miles, but the Egyptians only knew about 1000 miles of it, and that was at the height of their empire. Along the river there is a thin ribbon of land that was nourished by the annual flooding of the Nile, it is lush, and many crops were crown there. The ribbon varies from a couple miles wide in some places and nonexistent in others. The Egyptians called this place Kemet "the black land" because of the richness of the soil.
