Have you ever been interviewed for a job? Sure you have. Why do you think employers conduct interviews? They conduct interviews because they want the right person for the position, the one they feel is the right fit and would work best with the team.

Now you are about to embark on a home business and likely start in a program where someone might be your sponsor. So do you sign on the dotted line just like that? I hardly think so.

A good mentor/sponsor is a vital piece of the entire mechanism that will help to ensure your success in a home business. They will show you where to begin your journey and help get you started on the initial steps you must take to become a presence on the internet. A mentor knows this and is willing to guide you along that path as well.

What should you look for in a mentor? Are you seeking someone to walk you through the entire process? Is it important to you that this person (s) is highly successful or can they be on their way? Do you want someone with a lot of technical knowledge? You may be looking for someone who can simply point you in the right direction when they cannot answer a specific question. These are just some of the questions one should consider before you interview your potential sponsor.

Where do you find a good mentor/sponsor? The best place to find knowledgeable people is on business forums. There are countless numbers of forums who are started by some of the top marketers where you can go to learn about everything from technical tips for your website to the best home candle business. This is where you do you research. Read all the threads and note screen names of people who post often and intelligently. If you are seeking a particular affiliate program then focus on that thread and look for the person(s) who is answering the questions in a manner that suits you. The forum is where you can get a glimpse into the personalities of the people who are posting and can most certainly tell whom amongst that group you may want to choose to interview.

How can you actually interview that person? Initially, you can begin by asking questions after they have posted and see how they respond. The best and most honest way though would be to actually send them a private message (PM) on the forum and tell them you are interested in the program they represent and would like to know more. Let them know what is important to you in a sponsor and see how they respond. You will be able to tell by their response whether or not this will be a good fit.

Succeeding in a home business, especially for someone who is just starting out can be especially daunting. There are so many obstacles in your way. Choosing a good mentor is a way to get over some of those hurdles in the beginning and makes the beginning of the path smooth.
