If you want to have a renewable energy source at a cheap price then a windmill might be right for you. Cheap windmills are sometimes looked down upon because they aren’t as sleek as some of the more expensive ones. The fact is that if you get good plans your windmill will be as efficient and almost as sleek looking as the thousand dollar ones. The truth is nowadays windmill technology is mostly the same; the difference is only the size, price, and appearance.

First step is find out how many kilo-watt-hours you’re paying for each month and try to cut back. Install energy efficient light bulbs, double-pane windows, gas powered clothes driers and the like. Now when you install your windmill you won’t be wasting any excess energy. You want your windmill to cut your baseline cost and not just cover the expense of having outdated light bulbs and appliances. Next, check your area’s wind maps. There should be a minimum of 9 mph winds. You can find a wind map online or by calling your local weather station. You want a cheap windmill, not a useless one.

Then research any available state, federal, or local subsidies or tax credits that you may qualify for. Some states will have programs where your windmill can pay for itself in 5 years or 15 years. But since you’re looking into a cheap windmill this doesn’t concern you much- you’ll make your money back quickly. Purchasing design plans and building your own windmill is what makes a cheap windmill so appealing to thrifty people.

There are a variety of plans and designs to fit anyone’s needs but obviously some are more difficult to get off the ground than others. You can purchase a step by step guide that will walk you through the process or you could buy cheap blueprints that don’t have simple instructions attached. Again, how much you spend on plans depends on your level of expertise.

If you made sure you’re being as energy efficient as possible and would like to boost your savings, then a cheap windmill might be right for you. Your plot of land must have enough average wind and space or your windmill becomes a lawn ornament. That’s pretty much it. The next step is to get the right plans and start building your cheap windmill.
