A large family of chemical substances, comprising many hormones, body constituents, and drugs, each containing the tetra cyclic cyclopean phenanthrene skeleton. Stereoisomerism among steroids is not only common but of critical biologic significance. The nomenclature conventions are that the nucleus is presented as if projected onto the plane of the paper, with groups then lying above that plane being denoted by thickened bonds and called β and those then lying below that plane being denoted by broken bonds and called α; the letter ξ indicates unknown or unspecified orientation.
Anabolic steroids Anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) are members of a class of natural and synthetic steroid hormones that promote cell growth and division. These hormones result in growth of many types of body tissues, especially muscle and bone. Most anabolic androgenic steroids have varying combinations of androgenic and anabolic qualities, and are often referred to AAS. To briefly touch base on history of anabolic steroids, they were first discovered in 1930s. Anabolic steroids have been used for many medical purposes including stimulation of bone growth, appetite, puberty, and muscle growth. The most common use of anabolic steroids is their ability to deal with chronic wasting conditions including cancer and AIDS.
Safe Methods of Steroid Use Safety is ALL important and is always covered. The press and media talk pure bullshit (as usual) and exaggerate the risks of steroid use out of all proportions. BUT there are very real risks of improper steroid use and steroid abuse, and you have to know what you are doing. We make safety issues a priority so that you can minimize the risks, and just enjoy the benefits of good, proper, safe steroid use -- a strong, seriously muscled body, in the shortest time possible, without the risks or side effects.
History of Steroids In order to trace the history and development of anabolic steroids from their beginning to their present day form, we first need to look back towards ancient times, when it was known that the testicles were required for both the development and maintenance of male sexual characteristics. In modernity, this concept was further developed, by a scientist named Berthold and his experiments on cockerels done in 1849. He removed the testes from these birds, and they lost several of the characteristics common to the male of their species, including sexual function. So, we knew as early as 1849 that the testicles functioned to promote what we consider to be primary male sexual properties; in other words, they are what "make men into men". Berthold also found that if the testicles were removed and then transplanted to the abdomen, the sexual function of the birds was largely unaffected.
Effects Reports indicate that use of anabolic steroids produces increases in lean muscle mass, strength, and ability to train longer and harder. Many health hazards of short-term effects are reversible. The major effects of anabolic steroid use include liver tumors, jaundice, fluid retention, and high blood pressure. Additional side effects include the following: for men shrinking of the testicles, reduced sperm count, infertility, baldness, development of breasts; for women growth of facial hair, changes in or cessation of the menstrual cycle, deepened voice; for adolescent’s growth halted prematurely through premature skeletal maturation and accelerated puberty changes.
