When shopping for discount window treatments, remember to choose something that is within your budget, yet will still look beautiful in your home.

You can make dramatic window treatment in just five to ten minutes, if you can hang a curtain rod by draping scarves or luxurious fabrics over the rod. This is a beautiful and involves no sewing.

You may want to lay out a piece of the fabric face up with the other fabric on top facing down. Make sure that the fabrics are together. You can sew along the edges of the top and on both sides. Turn the shade right side out while sewing close the bottom edges. Then, hang them from ribbons sewn along the top. You can also add ribbons at the bottom, so when you open the shades, the ribbons can be tied. When the shades are open, both fabrics are visible.

You may want to use window treatments that give privacy. In this case, tab top curtains are the way to go. You will need a heavy fabric measured to your window’s width and length. Do not forget to allow for seam allowance. You should sew all sides for a smoother edge. In making the tabs, cut out fabric strips around eight inches long and four inches wide. Fold the strips lengthwise, into three while sewing the edges down. Make sure that the sewn edges will not show through when you attach the end of the tabs to the curtains.

A valance is another favorite form of window treatment and is normally used for decorative purposes. You will need a piece of fabric twice your windows width and around sixteen inches long. Hem the sides and the bottom for smooth edges. Then, fold the top edge around four inches toward the back of the fabric. Create a ruffle by sewing a straight line, sewing the ruffle above the four-inch mark before attaching it to the bottom edge.
