Fruit
Fruit trees and shrubs are also valuable producers, especially considering the long-term. Fruits will be ready to harvest from peppers and tomatoes about ten weeks after planting. Dwarf or miniature varieties often mature and bear fruit early, but most do not produce as well overall as standard varieties. Fruit bushes are often in the news with the health promoting and anti-aging properties of blueberries and black currents to the fore. Raspberry canes are probably one of the easiest soft fruit producers to look after and with the different varieties available, it is possible to have fruit from early summer to late autumn. Don't forget that several fruit bushes are prickly, particularly the gooseberry.

In the vegetable garden, the routine addition of soil conditioners such as compost will optimize potential yields and produce quality vegetables.
Weeds
Weeds must be controlled in vegetable gardening because they will take up water, light, and nutrients meant for the vegetables and they often bring disease and insects to the garden. Mulch is the best form of weed control, cover the ground with a thick layer of mulch (15cm or 6 inches) and this will stop the weeds from sprouting up through the ground. Any weeds that do manage to come up will be easy to pull out because the ground will be nice and soft. Cultivate out all weeds before spreading the mulch evenly over the bare soil between the plants. Some perennial weeds may also be suppressed in this way if they are small, but often dandelions or other tap-rooted weeds will eventually find their way through the mulch.
You may not need to buy another vegetable again, and with the price of produce these days, now is the time to get stuck in to your very own home vegetable garden. This home vegetable garden will prove to be satisfying and pleasurable. Remember, no patch of land is too tiny to create a superb home vegetable garden.
