Breaking up with someone that you care about can be a painful experience; especially if you felt a deep love or some emotional commitment to that person. It would be nice if remedies for a broken heart came in pill or liquid form. Just take one pill a day or drink this three times a day and all of your heartache will go away. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way.

Remedies for a broken heart don't come in a magic potion formula. There are many other, more tangible alternatives that you can try to help overcome the pain of a broken heart. This article discusses some common remedies for a broken heart.

  1. Find a new love to replace the old one. This sounds easy, doesn't it? The point is you have to keep searching. Don't be afraid to date (and date alot). You need to put yourself out there and experience as many different men or women that you can. You need variety in people and experiences. The more you have to choose from the better your chances that you will connect with the right person. That is a sure fire way to ease the pain from your broken heart.

  2. Always strive to look your best - look fabulous! It is a fact - the better you look the better you will feel about yourself. When you feel better about yourself you will be more confident. When you are confident you won't be as timid about meeting people and dating. If you decide to sit around in sweats with the unshaven look or "no make-up" today look you won't feel good about yourself and other people will notice. You want people to see you as someone that carea about themselves. That image exudes confidence and strength and that is very attractive.

  3. Closure. You need closure after a breakup. The emotional pain from a breakup will linger on and on when there are unanswered questions. Get your closure. Find the answers that you need to satisfy your questions. Explain to your ex that you just need to put this behind you and in order to do that you need answers. If explain it that way your ex won't be threatened that you are trying to force the relationship back together. They may be more willing to cooperate with you.

  4. Party with your friends. Who doesn't like a good party? Surround yourself with people that you like and that are your true friends. Go out and have fun. Make a commitment not to talk about your ex and just party. Go to new bars, clubs and restaurants. Avoid the old haunts that you used to go to with your ex. Start making new memories.

  5. Don't wallow in self pity - get back in the game. Self-pity leads to self-loathing. No one wants to be with someone that is full of self pity and loathing. It will do you no good. Get past it and get past it quickly.

  6. Have a lot of "girly nights" (or "guy nights"). Bond together with the girls or the guys. If that means sitting in your apartment eating and drinking and talking then do it. If it means crying and consoling then do it. If it means shopping til you drop or going to strip clubs then do it. Do whatever it takes to make you forget about the heartache you are feeling.

  7. Keep active and keep your mind busy. Revisit a favorite hobby that you may be interested in. Go places, do things. Don't sit home and think about the break up. This is your time to heal. Do whatever you want. The point is DO SOMETHING.

  8. Sleep with someone else. This may not be your style but it's worth considering. The thought that someone else finds you desireable to have sex with may help you realize that you are attractive to other people. Sleeping with someone else may make you feel so guilty that you will forget your heart is broken!

  9. Watch a lot of sad, romantic movies. This is a classic. The thought here is that the movies will make you cry so much that there won't be any tears left for the heartbreak.

  10. Pray. Many people turn to religion in their time of need. If it works for you then go for it.

This list of remedies for a broken heart may seem obvious or not so obvious to you. It depends on your past experiences. Will they all help? Probably not but they will at least give you some options to consider while your broken heart is mending. Try one or all of them. You will feel better in time. Remember to keep pushing forward.
