VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP Telephony and is the process of routing voice conversations over the internet. It means that we can utilise the internet as a phone line and talk for hours, even to someone in another continent and not pay a fortune for it.

VoIP is quite straight forward and all you really need is a computer and a decent internet connection.

What can VoIP do for me?

VoIP is pretty new as technology goes and is constantly evolving and developing. VoIP is portable and it is not locations dependant, which means that all you need to connect is internet access. Most providers of VoIP will give you a router to connect to your computer, and this router can be taken everywhere with you. This means that you will never miss another phone call again.

VoIP telephony offers caller ID on all outgoing and incoming calls as well as the facility to block such information. It also offers fax lines, multi-phone lines and more recently text messaging. What do I need for VoIP Telephony?

It is virtually impossible for VoIP Telephony to work with a slow connection so bandwidth is imperative – the bigger the better. Power supply is also important as routers are connected to a computer.

How much does it cost? As an incentive for a business to take this on, there couldn’t be a more obvious one. There are great savings to be made on calls and in some cases the cost is completely eliminated.

What features are available?

The majority of VoIP systems come with the following features as standard but there are many additional features that you can add on to your existing system. As standard VoIP delivers voicemail, call waiting, 3-way calling, ‘follow me’ and call forwarding.

VoIP is constantly evolving and is going to take the future of telephony in a very interesting direction saving you money and giving you more for your money.

VoIP Telephony is going to play a huge part in the development and advances in the way that we use the internet to communicate. VoIP Telephony allows you to speak to anyone wherever you are as long as you have internet connection.
