Now that you have taken the necessary steps to ensure that your water is properly filtered and safer for you to be drinking, have you taken into account what kind of drinking water containers you should be using? At first, a drinking water container may not seem that important, but if you are going through the trouble to drink water that is the most healthy for you, you should understand the choices that you have available to you.

When you were searching for a filtration system, you probably took some information into account. Part of this information could have revolved around the many studies that have been completed that tell us that there are over 2,100 toxic chemicals present in our tap water. You also probably found a system that filtered out chlorine, lead, VOC's, and cysts, while leaving the natural traces of minerals that are so important for you.

Why would you not put the same type of vigor into looking for drinking water containers that keep the water healthy for you. You may have heard the recent discussions as to the harmful effects of plastic drinking water containers.

The problem with these plastic containers is that the plastic leaks byproducts into the water that you have worked so hard to make safe for your family. One of the agents leaked into the drinking water from plastic drinking containers is BPA, or Bisphenol A. BPA has been considered an endocrine disruptor, and may induce chronic toxicity with long term exposure.

Another byproduct to be aware of with the use of these plastic containers is phthalate. Phthalates are plasticizers added to PVC to make it flexible and less rigid. This byproduct may be carcinogenic, and more studies need to be conducted on its harmful effects. You can tell which bottles are made with Phthalates, as they are marked with a 3 in the triangle on the bottom of the bottle.

Another area of concern for these plastic containers is that the longer the water is sitting in these containers, the more contaminated it becomes. There also becomes a concern when these bottles are exposed to heat, which has been thought to release even more of the harmful byproducts. How many times have you left a water bottle in your car, only to put it in the fridge, and drink a few hours later?

Clearly, a safer alternate for your drinking water containers would be utilizing glass. This seems the only way to keep your water truly fresh and pure. Glass is a better alternative for your drinking water container for several reasons.

First of all, you avoid the byproduct seepage that can happen with a plastic drinking container. You will not have to worry about whether or not your water has harmful byproducts or worry that leaving your water in your car will cause harmful health side effects in the future.

You also will be able to be confident in the fact that you are not contributing to the wastefulness in our landfills of the sixty million plastic drinking containers that go there on a daily basis. You will also know that you are helping to stall the production of these plastic bottles by using a drinking water container that can be reused for years and years.
