If you aspire to make money online, you know that you’ll undoubtedly need some traffic. Traffic is the motor that drives every successful online business venture. Without you will struggle to succeed. With enough traffic, even a terrible product will make some sales. Traffic is basically a numbers game. If you get enough of it, you will succeed. However, if you fail to generate a respectable amount, you might as well pack your bags and go home. The internet can be a cruel place to learn this lesson as you’ll probably be frustrated if you learn this firsthand. So how can you win the traffic game?

The truth is that there is any number of ways to generate traffic for your website. You could always be doing something to bring people to your website. If you stay consistent and persevere every day, you’ll get people there. Let’s look at a few of the methods you could use.

Banner advertising is the oldest form of advertising on the web. You are undoubtedly familiar with this as it is on pretty much every major website in the world. These are banners on the top or the side of the website that have a picture or something for you to click on. The click-thru rate on these types of advertisements is traditionally very low. You have to get a lot of people to look at these ads before they actually click on one. Therefore, if you want to employ this method, you’ll have to advertise on one of the more popular websites. This will also probably be pretty costly; therefore you should probably have a healthy marketing budget to use this. It can be great for large companies that don’t have a lot of time to devote to online marketing. They’ll spend their money and get almost a guaranteed stream of traffic.

For the online marketer that has a limited budget, there are other options available. Article marketing, email marketing, and forum posting are some other techniques that you might try if you’re on a tight budget.

Article marketing is when you submit articles that you write to different databases. Then, whenever someone uses your article they also post a link to your website with the article. The more times your article is used, the more backlinks you have to your website. Any time there are links to your website; this is definitely a good thing.

Forum posting is pretty easy, but you should expect limited results. This is when you go into a related forum and post a link to your website. This can be done tastefully like in your signature file at the end of your post. Just don’t expect a flood of traffic from this method.

Email marketing can be effective if you have enough email addresses to send to. There are many companies out there that will let you rent their list or give you permanent access to their database.

Overall, the most important thing to remember about traffic generation for your website is that you have to stick with it. Don’t give up after two weeks if your products aren’t selling. Stay the course and you will be rewarded with a lot of traffic.
