Ever click on one of those links that says "Free Home Based Business", just to find out that signing up is free, but to really get going it's gonna cost you $19.99. I have found that most of the "Free" businesses are just made to get your money and then get you to get someone elses money. You can work these programs for free, if you just know how. The best way to promote your affiliate links is through free classified ads, free directories, and free article submission.

Free classifieds are just what it says, free classified ads. You can create and ad yourself, or use one of the ads your affiliate program provides. I like to create my own ads, since that way my ad doesn't look like everyone elses. If you search for "free classifieds" in any search engine, you will find thousands to choose from. Normally you don't want to use anything that doesn't show up on the first couple of pages because they aren't being seen by very many people. But I have found that since there aren't as many ads on some of the smaller sites, my ads stand out more than they will on the bigger sites.

Free directories are like free classifieds, except you are putting your ad on a site where people are going looking for a specific thing. This means you get a more targeted audience. As with classifieds, if you enter "free directories" into your favorite search engine, you will get tons of listings. I would stay away from the directory submitters that want money. You can do the submissions yourself if you just want to spend some time.

Article submission is doing what I'm doing now. Try to find a topic you know something about and write up an article about it. You can submit your article using article submission sites if you wish or you can search for article submission sites yourself and if you want to put in the time, you can get some good results.

The main purpose of the the methods above is to promote your site or affiliate link. The added benefit is if you have your own web site, you can increase your search engine ranking by adding inbound links to your site. One of the things most search engines use to rank your site, is how many links there are on the internet to your site. By adding classified ads, directory entries, and articles that contain your web address, you are putting more and more of those links out there.
