The 2009 Honda Accord could be in line for another year in the top 10. Going by the accolades it won from other sources for the 2008 model, it looks set to retain most of the awards and recognitions that came its way.
It was rated the number one four-cylinder mainstream cylinder vehicle by Car and Driver magazine. In its annual 10-Best competition, the 2008 Honda Accord was singled out for its improved space and performance. The coupe and sedan versions were, in the opinion of this magazine, "one more in a terrific line of cars that have captured a record 22 10 Best trophies since we started awarding them in 1983."
The 2008 Honda Accord was given the rating of "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave it the maximum rating of five stars for driver and front passenger crash tests.
Back in October 2007, Motor Trend went to the extent of considering this model a benchmark –or what it calls "best of the best", placing it much higher than its competing model, the Toyota Camry.
Another reputable automobile source, USA Today, was equally lavish in its praise of this model. Its automotive editor, James R. Healey said in its August 24, 2007 issue that its powertrain was refined as a result of "uncommon attention to detail".
It came in for praise from AutoWeek as well. In its August 21, 2007 issue, it went on to say that "everything about the new model is larger or better, whether you’re looking at overall size and interior volume, power output and fuel economy or the list of standard features".
It remains to be seen if these achievements of the 2008 model will serve as the basis for the coming 2009 model, which is already in the market. But if you follow history, then the Accord seems primed and ready for another award winning year.
