Defending Yourself is Easier Than You Think

Personal defense is a significant interest in today’s world. It doesn’t matter where you live in the world, there is crime going on. The best protective measures possible are also preventative measures. They stop hazardous activities before they start.

The phrase "self defense," has many very different implications for each person who hears it. Some people think of weapons while others believe it involves years of training and preparation. Many consumers mistakenly believe self defense is synonymous with bringing actual firearms and live ammunition into the household.

Misconceptions aside, there are general "rules-of-thumb," for protecting yourself. The standard principals are simple and can be applied regardless of where you live. Always lock your doors, both at home and when you park your vehicle. Many suggest only parking your automobile in well-lit areas. If an unmarked car approaches with a light flashing as a police vehicle would, don’t stop until you are in a public area and around other people.

If you believe someone is deliberately following you on the road, simply pull into the parking lot of a fire station or police station. It is also recommended that you lock you doors at this point and beep your horn until an officer or firefighter comes outside. Anyone following you with dubious intentions will drive on.

These measures are reliable for their situations, however, there are times when even the most cautious and careful individual can be victimized. This is the primary reason so many consumers have opted for non-lethal methods of protection.

Many misconceptions have greatly affected the consumer’s perspective of personal "defense." Do you need a black belt in martial arts in order to properly defend your family or your home? A license to carry a weapon? Does it involve hours of training or practice just to know you are prepared?

Fortunately, with the help of modern technology, defending yourself or your home is easier than ever. There are many non-lethal measures that are and effective against an attacker or burglar. These simple, precautionary measures are both safe and effective for the consumer’s household when used and handled responsibly. The most common non-lethal practices for protecting yourself or your family are: tasers, pepper sprays, and stun guns.

There are a few standard principals every consumer should know when choosing to utilize any of these methods. Read and retain all documentation when you receive your product. Note any warning messages and store your product out-of-the-reach of children.

These products are also convenient due to their portability. Most can be inconspicuously carried in your purse or pocket and many are designed to appear completely benign to someone else. Some of these products in disguise and appear as unthreatening as cell phones.

For the most effective experience, store your product in a place that’s easily accessible. You can keep it in a nightstand beside your bed or under the seat in your car.

There are many technical differences between these items and the internet offers a great amount of information for researching which item will be best for you. There’s never a reason to fear when you use all the resources available.
