A tax accountant is an individual who assists taxpayers in preparing a tax return and can also help businesses by providing data for their tax returns. Calculating tax is a complex procedure for people who are unaware of its intricacies. By and large, most businesses find filing taxes a complicated process and hire accountants to help them with the procedure.

Tax accountants provide varied financial services like budget analysis, asset management, investment planning, legal consulting, cost evaluation, and auditing services. Although most of the countries in the world obey certain financial accounting rules laid down in national tax laws, there is no such body of regulations in the U.S. In the United States, licensed accountants are known as CPAs, or certified public accountants, and are required to attain an advanced level of expertise.

A tax accountant needs to be apt in calculating different kinds of taxation like income tax, emergency tax, retirement tax, capital gains tax, corporation tax, poll tax, excise duty, sales tax, value-added tax, property tax, and inheritance tax. Taxation in the U.S. is a complex system, and it could involve providing payments to local governments, regional institutions, state governments, or the federal government.

When hiring a tax accountant, one needs to decide the level of expertise that is required for the purpose of tax calculation; ideally, they should hire certified public accountants (CPAs). Most accountants charge on an hourly basis, and fees for a CPA firm’s services can range from $100 to $150 per hour. However, accountants with less experience might charge from $30 to $80 per hour for tax return preparation and ongoing tax accounting services.

Taxation is the backbone of any economy, as it provides the necessary funds for the developmental growth of a country. Therefore, a tax accountant holds an equally important position in a country’s future.
