When we go on holiday, most of us still want to look good and take our favourite clothes with us but this can be a challenge when faced with surcharges for suitcases that are over weight.
So many budget airlines now charge you per suitcase and by weight which can add to the cost of your holiday. If you are flying somewhere hot this half term to get away from the doom and gloom, follow my tips and take the minimum of clothing with the maximum of outfits.
Start with essential toiletries. It may be better to buy when you arrive, particularly with the tight regulations on liquids. If you prefer to take your own, decant enough for a week or two weeks into small containers and take the bare minimum. Equally with make-up, when somewhere hot you may find you don’t need to take your foundation but do take a couple of eye shadows in your best colours, mascara, blusher, again this must be the right tone for your skin and one lipstick in your best shade of pink, brown or peach. Check with your local colour consultant. She will be able to advise you on the colours that flatter you.
Clothing List
Underwear: the minimum again. Take some hand washing liquid.
Swimwear: one bikini or costume should be enough but maximum two.
Sarong: make sure this is a good versatile colour that matches your swimwear and your tops…..it can double as a skirt.
Trousers: one pair in your best neutral, preferably one of the lighter shades.
Skirt: One in one of your best neutral colours, light again and different from the trousers.
Tops: Seven different tops, all in your best colours that will tone with the sarong, trousers and skirt. Try to have a variety of styles from camisoles to shirts and t-shirts. Try and include one long sleeved shirt or top, in case you have too much sun!
Lightweight Jacket or Cardigan: Again in a good neutral that goes well with all the other items in your suitcase.
Footwear: one pair of pretty flip flops, a pair of comfortable flats either ballet pumps or lace –up according to your style and one pair of heels for going out in the evening.
If you get the colours right, you will be able to make a different outfit for everyday. Add a few accessories for the evening and voila…..a perfect holiday wardrobe. With careful planning you can be stylish without bringing your entire wardrobe.
