Before even thinking about postage costs and the other stuff that goes with direct mail marketing, or even how to design postcard, you must first have a clear understanding as to who are the people who are going to get your cards.

There are four kinds of people that you must think about on planning how to design postcards, up to the implementation of all your visions about the project. You can categorize these people into the following:

1. People who do not have the slightest idea about your company, products and services. You are aiming for these people to be aware that you exist. To do so, you must get their attention. Your materials must pique their interests.

This is not that easy to accomplish. You are constantly faced with stiff competition with so many products that are also vying for the attention of these people. You must really be creative in order to come up with the kind of materials that will be up for the challenge.

With postcards, you have to focus more about the design and presentation aspects. People are already used being marketed with such tool. Their usual reaction is to throw the cards away before they can be convinced by the message. As much as possible, they want to avoid spending on something like the promotion that you are telling them about. That is why you have to exert extra effort with everything that will cause the recipients hold on to your cards and even keep them for future reference.

2. People who have already availed from you and you want to gain their loyalty. The cards aim to update them about the latest promotions and gimmicks that your company is having. This will make them feel like they are important to your company and that you think about them when you’ve got something in store for your loyal patrons.

3. People who are loyal to your competitors. You can show these people that you have better offers than the other companies that are targeting the same market that you do. Present to them better choices and exciting promotions.

You must have already accomplished studying your competitors’ tactics before you proceed with this. This way, you have already gauged how they are playing the field and what tactics do they apply on their marketing strategies.

4. People who have availed from you once and you want to sustain their interests to have them coming back to your store. It is important that you don’t throw out the names and contact details of the clients who already have availed your products and services. It will be easier to convince them to come back especially if you have given them the best customer service that you can afford to give.

Keep these people in mind when you are on the process of planning on how to design postcard and distribute them accordingly. Your marketing strategies will only work if you are targeting the right people and hitting them as well with all of your actions.
