Seriously speaking, in light of this economic downturn, amidst the compounded turmoil of recession and rising food and fuel costs, everyone would appreciate alternatives to cutting monthly expenditures. Topping the cost cutting list is fuel costs which take up about 15 to 35 percent of our pay check depending on our income levels. Alternatives such as car pooling, getting a smaller car, a hybrid car, are propositions for serious money savers. Let us review and explore their viability.

Option 1, Carpooling. This is always the first and most obvious alternative whenever we think of saving on fuel costs, soon to be abandoned after you have weighed all possibilities. Only consider car pooling if you profess to be an organized person with schedules and coordination as timing of who and where to pick up and who next is critical in a rush hour situation. Also keeping your car at top running condition everyday is important if you are the car owner. And finally, you must be very numerate to be able to calculate the mileage and charges of each of your passengers. A true hassle you say. Well, try driving the hybrid car for a change.

Option 2, Get a Smaller Car. This is another popular consideration. But if you are oversized or have a large and extended family who travel often or even car pool with you, the small car option is out of the question for you. You and your passengers will have to bear the discomfort for 50 mile drives to and from the groceries with bags piled amongst them too. Trade that image with a handsome looking hybrid car which you pay zero for gasoline when cruising below 40 miles and zipping around town with great leg room and boot space too.

Option 3, The Most Fuel Efficient Car. Every time you stop by the gasoline station, you are reminded by the fact that you are saving at least 50 percent on fuel costs, amounting to a good few hundred dollars every week. Yes, you would like that indeed. There is no better time than now to get that savings without having to wait for that gas station promotion. The hybrid car reality is that it uses about 50 percent less fuel than its gasoline guzzling counterparts and emits about 30 to 50 percent less fumes into the ozone. So you save both your money as well as the environment too.

Option 4, That Hybrid Car Still Tops The Charts Or Otherwise. You might be looking at very low fuel savings should you be a highway driver instead of an urban driver. This has everything to do with how hybrid cars work. Hybrid cars work best in urban driving, and if you lifestyle fits, you stand to save much more. And hence, if you drive the highway most of the time, it is not difficult to see that you do not really benefit from the hybrid.

Which ever option you choose, your needs must match your driving style as well as your lifestyle. But simply by owning a hybrid car, the joys could be beyond merely monetary benefits.
