Majorca is one of the largest of the Balearic islands and one of the most visited islands in Europe. It is part of Spain by designation and takes – at least in part – its heritage and foods from this region. Despite being so well visited there is something here for everyone even if you’re not looking for busy excitement. Sleepy fishing villages as well as larger holiday resorts with many bars and nightclubs are available here so there is something for everyone.
From Puerto Pollensa and Cala San Vicentein the North West to Palma and Magaluf in the south west there is something for everyone here. The weather here is good most of the year, with the summer months being full of sunshine. Seasonal variations are less here than on the mainland as well. Many fiestas and festivals take place around the island through the year, and the beautiful golden sands of the beaches, blue skies and rugged mountains are a wonderful backdrop to any holiday.
The islands capital (and largest city) is Palma to the south west of the island. Its setting is a bay where the resort part of the capital lies, with lots of sand and sun, and many water sports available for people to try out. The town itself is full of history and has various places of interest to visit such as the museum and cathedral and you can take a tour bus to see the sights if you prefer. There are many shops to visit here full of interesting locally made items, as well as plenty of restaurants where you can enjoy a relaxed meal and a rest from your shopping.
One of the best known holiday resorts of the island is Magaluf. This is a place where people come to dance the night away in the many lively clubs and discos and it is well suited to the 18-30’s holiday scene. There are more than 100 bars in the area, and many of the night clubs stay open into the early hours of the morning. A variety of water sports take place here in the daytime so this may be one of the liveliest resorts on the island.
To the north west of Majorca is Puerto Pollensa. It is about an hour and a half from Palma and is surrounded by the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range which gives a lot of added shelter to the region as well as making a pretty impressive backdrop to the region. A fantastic location for holiday makers who want a bit of everything from sand sun and sea to the more active water sports and evening entertainment. Nearby is the more relaxed and sleepy village of Cala San Vicente, probably one of the most relaxed and peaceful areas on the island it is a fishing village where you really can get away from the hustle and bustle of everything else.
These are just a few of the destinations you can choose from on Majorca, there are many others each with their own special something. The sun shines for most of the year here on Majorca, and that means that no matter what time of year you are thinking of coming here, there will be something going on to suit you. Water sports, climbing, walking, dancing, or just lazing on the beach enjoying the sunshine, a trip to Majorca can be restful or energetic as you choose.
