Auto Insurance for Females: From a Traditional Male Viewpoint
Traditionally, females have been the target of many companies for a number of reason, and this have driven a lot of companies to further segment their market strategies. On TV, we see a lot of advertising directed towards females by products that claim female-specific benefits. The trend in female-specific products has also hit the auto-insurance industry, and there’s clear indication why. Auto-insurance companies analyzing data from road vehicular accidents have concluded that females are least likely to end up in an accident. Naturally, the lesser risk associated with female drivers prompted auto-insurance companies to develop policies specifically aimed at providing the needs of this market.
According to road statistics, more males figure in road accidents than their female counterparts. That’s right, more males. Over the last five years alone, males dominated the share of accidents. Statistics show that about 97 percent of automobile accidents that led to injury or death were caused by male drivers. An alarming 85 percent of reckless driving incidences, 83 percent for over-speeding and 89 percent of driving under the influence of alcohol are attributed to the male driving population.
Doing the math, one is led to believe that females are the better drivers. I’d love to contend this, I am male, after all, but who am I to argue with numbers? Maybe we can settle this issue with a race or a fistfight. Case closed?
How much has female-only products invaded the auto-industry market? It appears that there are even auto-insurance companies that provide, apart from the standard fender bender repair, even handbag coverage. There are even preferred or company recommended auto-repair shops to take a damaged female-owned car.
In my humble opinion, the stereotypical "shopaholic" female can become a victim if she is not careful to sift through this marketing barrage. Yes, filters are still needed. Most companies are sure to cash in on this craze and would do everything to ensure a grab of female money. One should think that companies still have to recoup the investment they made to make gender-specific marketing possible.
This is where we, the reckless-driving males, come in with our seasoned advice. After all, we do have the lion’s share of road accidents. So, what does this average male have to offer the female driving populace? Insurance shopping tips, of course. It won’t be too hard to get the female bargain-hunting skills going.
• Like any wise shopper, I am sure that you are most likely to be one, do browse around for the best or cheapest rate. Most often than not, seasoned shoppers would just look to specialty stores for their needs and forget the stores that cater to the broad majority. However, I suggest veering away from this practice especially when shopping for auto-insurance. Price-wise, it isn’t hard to imagine a traditional company beating a specialist.
