I remember a commercial a few years ago from a travel company. The main thrust of the ad was to act on instinct and reward yourself by taking a vacation. The more you think about these things the more concerns you will start to build up, and the more stressed out you will eventually become. Because of this people should at least occasionally just act on impulse, and do something that they know will be good for them.
This can be a very effective marketing message, especially if you are involved in something based on making life more pleasurable or more relaxing. Often I find myself removing different methods of relaxing because when I think too much about it I start to find reason not to do it, whether those reasons are very meaningful or not.
You need to combat this to help ensure that people are not stopping themselves from having a little fun, and the best way to do that is to create marketing that encourages them to act.
I would consider this to be a more extreme form of the call to action. Good calls to action will end an advertisement by telling people what they should do next. It is a form of a command to them, and for advertisements like the travel company one I listed above, they have taken this principle and designed an entire ad campaign around it.
Consider if you plan to print posters how you can make use of this idea for your marketing. Try to find just the right location where poster printing can connect with what people are doing right then, and have a strong call to action as the focus of your poster. As a basic example say you sell some sort of candy or snack food, so you print posters to put up in locations where people are likely to want a snack, or will have easy access to one.
Now when people see your poster they will see that strong call to action and they will be able to act quickly if they want to. You are setting up the perfect situation to encourage them to act based on instincts and satisfy their needs.
The more long term your services or products are the less likely this will be to really work. If you sell something particularly expensive few people are even capable of acting on instinct to make a purchase, because they simply cannot afford to. That is why this type of marketing will be best applied to merchandise or services that can be gotten quickly and rather cheaply.
Figure out a way to apply this to some of your marketing. You are likely to be using calls to action already, so it is not that much of a stretch to take the idea further and center your marketing on it.
