We all have the need to grow. The desire to become better, to have more and to improve our lives is a basic human need. In order to be happy, fulfilled human beings we must grow and expand our lives consistently. The key is consistency. Our lives will never be "sorted" for a real sense of happiness and fulfilment comes from a consistent improvement in the quality of our lives.

For us to experience this sense of fulfilment we don't need to make major life changes on a daily basis. Similarly, you don't need books of self improvement ideas to make a difference in your life. You need self improvement ideas that you can use and apply and make part of your life. These ideas needn't be complicated. It is often the simplest ideas that create the greatest changes in our lives.

By making small incremental changes towards our ultimate vision of our lives on a daily basis, we start to build unstoppable momentum in our lives. People often rush in and create massive changes in their lives and try to change everything in their lives overnight. This kind of change and self improvement rarely lasts.

Whenever you learn a new self improvement idea or skill, commit yourself to it. Make a real decision where you absolutely commit yourself to use and utilize it until it is conditioned as a habit of mind. Start with small and simple self improvement ideas and build on it.

All change and self improvement start in our minds, on the internal world, the part of life over which you have absolute and total control. We can't control the events and circumstances around us but we can and have absolute control over our interpretation of it. Nothing in life has any meaning except for the meaning you attach to it. You cannot direct the wind, but you can direct your sails.

The challenge is that we tend to get caught up in the circumstances of life and allow the environment to take control of us instead of us controlling it. Remember what Benjamin Disraeli said: "man is not the creature of circumstances; circumstances are the creatures of men." It is not what happens but what we do with what happens that shapes our lives.

The most important self improvement idea is to learn to take control of your mind. This is actually a lot easier than you might think, if you think about it for our thoughts are the basis of our minds. We are who and what we are in life because of our thoughts and therefore every improvement in our thoughts must by definition improve our lives. The law of attraction states that we attract into our lives the experiences that harmonize with our dominant thoughts.

In order to learn how to take control of your thoughts requires an understanding of what a thought actually is. Thinking is nothing but a process of asking and answering questions in our minds. The easiest way to utilize this self improvement idea is to start asking ourselves better questions. Questions like "why can't I do this? or "why does this always happen to me?" will hardly create empowering thoughts for your mind will give you answers to these questions based on your memory.
