What exactly makes for a successful company?

Is merely staying in business all you’re looking for? Do you specifically want to make your customers as happy as possible? Are you trying to be the most dominate company in your industry? Do you want your brand name to be something that people immediately think about when they think of your industry?

Maybe instead you want to be sure that you control a large portion of your market, or maybe you just want enough of the market to keep your business alive?

All of these things are going to be potential questions to ask when you start to try to measure just how successful or not your company has been. Defining success isn’t that easy, and based on what your desire is, you’ll have to come up with different ways to measure whether or not you managed to achieve your goals.

Consider if success for you is very customer oriented. You want to be the leading voice for your customers to turn to whenever they have any questions about your industry. How exactly can you gauge this? You can look at your share of the market for a start, but what if people are only shopping with you until they find someplace better?

Going directly to your customers to answer these questions is a possibility many companies don’t bother to take. Newsletter printing allows you to start up a direct dialogue with your customers. Have them write in on a regular basis telling you what they think to be sure that you’re doing what you need to in order to make them happy.

Other measures for success are a little easier to find. You might consider your measure of success to be building a good company people enjoy working at. Now you’ll look internally to figure out whether or not you’re doing what you were hoping to.

It’s always nice to have something that you’re working for, and something you can then measure to see how well you’ve managed to succeed. Without goals it can be difficult to keep your enthusiasm high and keep your business going. Figure out something you want to succeed at, and then do your best to keep track of it. I think you’ll notice it becomes a lot easier to reach your goals when you have a clear one to reach for.
