Where to find new, original backyard landscaping ideas for your next design? If you're into landscaping, at rookie or expert level, you may find yourself out of ideas sometimes. If you want to make your next backyard project unique and original, you need to think out of the box. Read on to learn a few ideas and tips that will put the ball rolling and you may come up with a unique design!

Tip 1 - Tree planting

Ok, it doesn't sound interesting or unique, right? But in fact, tree planting is full of creative possibilities. As said before, think out of the box: you can use trees in a suggestive, unique way, using them as decorative ornaments, or in certain shapes or lines that might draw the attention to a certain feature in your yard.

One example of an original use of tree planting is to plant a line of trees along your pool, or create a shadowy path leading to the house, a special place or the pool. If you go for planting trees on the edge of the swimming pool be careful to choose evergreen trees that won't fill your pool with leaves.

Tip 2 - Layering flowerbeds

You can give more dimension if you plan your flowerbeds when planting so to have rows of flowers descending in height. This will make the job of maintaining them much easier.

How to do it? Separate your flowerbed into three or four sections from back to forth. The back row will be used to plant the highest flowers and plants. The next row will hold shorter plants, and so on. This way, your flowers will stand out and your flowerbeds will go out of the regular horizontal plan.

Tip 3 - Use water!

There are plenty of things you can do with water. Include a few water features such as ponds, fountains and even fish tanks. Water features will make a great focal point in your yard, and they're not that difficult to create. Water fountains are a great way to disguise traffic noise, or to create an ideal environment for relaxation or meditation. You can buy fountains or you can make them yourself with a water pump, plastic or earthenware containers, some rocks and plants. You can even go wild and use an old kettle! You can also create a simple but attractive fish tank with a large glass, traslucid cachepot. Put some pebbles, some aquatic plants and a few goldfish and you're done!

These were just a few items you can use in innovative ways when looking for new backyard landscaping ideas for your next design.
