Desperate People often question how to get off the roller coaster of gambling addiction - the rush of that occasional jackpot, the devastating despair of that major bust...

The secret is to convince yourself that you cannot win overall. I am not saying you can't reap a monetary reward, I am looking at bigger situation here. There are a small number of people who carry out a glamorous, thrilling life as pro gamblers. There are also people who make a very good living convincing grieved family members that they can send messages to with the dead. This doesn't make it a lifestyle we should all leap into.

The basic truth is that making a living as a pro gambler is a stressful life that takes the level of dedication that very, very few people possess. The trail to becoming a pro gambler contains many certain roadblocks: No time for loved ones or friends, the critical health issues created by so much stress, total dedication to the world of gambling and the training to understand every aspect of your preferred game, and perhaps worst of all the constant financial losses. At the end of this trail, a few, a very few find that they are actually winning more than they lose. For most, they arrive at the end of this trail and look back at all the sacrifices they have made and find that everything they have won is a gambling addiction that will continually leech away their life until they are left with practically nothing of value.

This is the real cost. True, the monetary cost is what most people concentrate on, but the real tragedy is the loss of time and opportunity. People in gamblers anonymous have heard every hard luck tale on the planet, but the worst stories are the loss of families, time, and the chance to be truly content. The most important piece of gambling addiction help is to understand that everything in life is a trade off. Each time you are tempted to carry on the destructive cycle, keep in mind that you are giving up something (for sure) for an opportunity to win some money (an unlikely chance). If the cycle is permitted to continue, these many sacrifices add up to giving up everything good in life, while the minute chance of a jackpot remains just that.

Taking a step back and understanding that, in wagering, the only true winner is the person who own(s) the game. Whether you're talking about the track, the local bookie, or the lottery - this fact remains the same.
