A pair Cufflinks is a beautiful piece of jewellery/accessory for men used to link the two pairs of French cuffs on a dress shirt. References to cufflinks have been found dating back to the early seventeenth century.

Some say cufflinks were born merely by chance. Men used ribbons to tie their shirt cuffs, but they desired something more shiny and elegant instead. Men started using small chains that were fastened together by a gold or silver button instead of the ribbons. The Cufflinks as we call them today, were referred to as cuff strings.

Cufflinks were initially confined to the upper class and were seen as a symbol of the rich and sophisticated man. This changed by the mid eighteen hundreds when cufflinks found their way into the more mainstream jewellery shops of London, who brought them within the price range of wider public.

The industrial revolution allowed the productions of cheaply made cufflinks in large quantities, making them affordable and hence, bringing them within the reach of the common man.

Over time as cufflinks developed and became a more sophisticated part of a man's attire, a wide variety of cufflinks started emerging like cufflinks with stones, metals, new designs and fabrics. Their opening and closing mechanisms varied and the classic chain got replaced by the flip-hinge.

Today cufflinks has grown into a popular fashion statement for both men and women alike. Cufflinks now come in a wide range of designs like many other fashion accessories. Numerous design variations and intricate details are seen in cufflinks today. It is this attention to detail and craftsmanship that makes a cufflink elegant and expensive.

Silk Knot cufflinks are seen as an alternative to expensive cufflinks. They may come in one colour or may have different colour stripes. Silk knot cufflinks are worn with a well colour coordinated suit and shirt.

Cufflinks when accompanied with a beautiful silk tie or bow tie have been making men look elegant and smart for over 300 years and their ever changing variations will continue to do so for generations to come.
