There are a lot of benefits of fasting, but today I'm going to tell you just about the top 5 benefits of fasting for me personally. They'll probably be different for you, but if you haven't tried 24 hour fasts yet you can at least get a sense of what to expect. So here we go!
1) Easier Calorie Reduction – Trust me, I'm not the most "strict" person in the world and my guess is that you aren't either. Being incredibly strict with your diet isn't easy and that's the reason most people are overweight in the first place. I think one of the biggest benefits to fast for calorie reduction is that you stop feeling guilty about it! Since you'll be automatically reducing your calories by about 15-30 decrease in energy. Plus, since I started doing fasts I've never taken an afternoon nap (something I used to do 3-4 times per week).
4) More Efficient Digestion – Another great benefit of fasting regularly is that your digestion process improves almost instantly. We're conditioned to think that "6 meals per day increases your metabolism" (which it doesn't and I can show you proof) but if you take an entire day off eating, your digestion finally has a chance to relax and kind of take a little breather. Think about it, don't you think YOU would work better if all your life you were working 24/7, then you finally got a day or 2 off per week to relax? It's the same with your digestion!
5) Body Awareness – This is one of my personal benefits of fasting because I'm into personal development, so it might not be one of yours. What I mean by this is that when you start fasting you'll all of a sudden notice that you're a lot more in touch with your bodily sensations. Most people are completely numb to what they're body is telling them, and this is a great way to learn how to listen to your body. It's not really something you can learn from reading, it's something you need to do for yourself.
Those are my top 5 benefits of fasting. I'm sure you can come up with many more once you try it, but those are what I consider to be the best. Try it out and let me know what you think!
