Any man who has ever listened to their mother, sister, girlfriend or wife will know that a girl's engagement and wedding is what they all have dreamed about since they were little girls. They have been fantasizing about if for years and have probably run through every scenario and every possible dress, engagement ring and wedding location in their minds thousands of times! This can be a very daunting predicament that a young man who has found the woman he wants to marry can find himself in.

How do I choose the perfect engagement ring? She will be showing this engagement ring off to EVERYONE! Even the mailman, the grocery store clerk, the health club receptionist, the hairstylist at her favorite salon, not to mention her family and friends who will probably be checking it out closely and scrutinizing every detail!

Wow! What is a guy to do? Don’t panic! We are here to give you just a few pointers on how to choose that perfect engagement ring. Here are a few things that you must consider. It has been a long since tradition that a man typically spends about 2 month’s salary on an engagement ring.

This is a guideline and not a rule. You can spend more or less depending on your situation. Take direction from your soon to be wife. Not all ladies want a 3 or 4 carat diamond engagement ring.

Be observant and you can judge from other pieces of jewelry she owns or ask some of her friends and family for advice. It is almost certain she has discussed engagement rings with her dear friends.

Her engagement ring is something she will cherish for the rest of her life and is a symbol of your love for her and she will be more concerned about the symbol it represents before the price. If by chance you notice that her jewelry is on the expensive side then you may want to save up for an engagement ring that will WOW her attention, something she can brag about to everyone who will listen! You be the judge but do your research with her friends and family.

Besides the budget when choosing a ring, you will also need to consider the diamond shape and setting. Most engagement rings are typically round or princess cut. You may also choose a non traditional cut as in heart, pear, oval, emerald just to name a few.

Again guys, please find this out before you purchase. Most women will have a preference on the shape of their engagement ring more than anything else and probably would NEVER tell you if you have chosen one she does not like for fear of hurting your feelings.

The setting is also important for her engagement ring. Will she like the traditional solitaire, a setting with side stones (baguettes), setting with matching bands or three stone engagement rings? These are all very different and each woman has a particular style and preference. When selecting her ring you will also need to choose silver, gold (white or yellow), or platinum.

If you find this all too daunting of a task then you may want to consider bringing your soon to be with your and choose her engagement ring together. Make sure you are clear to her about the budget you want to spend so there is no misunderstanding.

Finally, we would also like to tell you that choosing a Canadian diamond for your engagement ring is the best choice you will make. Not only is Canada the world’s 3rd largest diamond supplier but in Canada we must also abide by very strict laws and a code of ethics to protect the wild life habitats and surrounding arctic environments in the northwest territories where our mines are located. Canadian diamond mines also follow very strict ethical guidelines and fair labor practices to protect mine workers. Rest assured that any Canadian diamond you choose will be 100% conflict free.
