I live in beautiful Austin, Texas. In my area, there are some of the most massive live oak trees that have gigantic trunks with twisting and turning branches that look like Medusa coming out of the ground.

These live oaks can live 600 years or more and are huge pillars of strength in the community. I got married under one of these great oaks in 1992 to my sweetheart, but hey, that's another story...

So, what does a oak tree have to do with you and me?

We can choose to live like an oak in our lives with strength, stability and firmness or we can choose to live like a willow tree swaying in the wind and bending this way and that.

Isn't it get to decide which we want to be...an mighty oak or a willow in our lives?

So often we can't decide, yes or no, red or blue, go or should I stay?...I know, because I've been there. Oh, I could make the big decisions just not the little ones.

When I decided to move to Texas in 1990, I packed up my car and left Ohio. When I decided I was going to run a marathon, I ran one. When I decided I was going to work from my home, I did it. I was a big decision maker.

It was the little nagging decisions. Did I make the right choice? Should I re-do that email? Maybe I shouldn't have called them.

I was a decision doubter.

I would immediately start to doubt my decision. Oh, I wanted to be a mighty oak, a person that was strong in their decision and stood firm. Instead of being a mighty oak in my decisions, I was a willow!

I would sway one way to another. You could say that I was a small decision fence sitter. Never quite wanting to commit one way or the other. But here's the thing, it's never comfortable sitting on the fence (Ouch!)

I would think I was firm in a decision until I talked with someone else and then my decision would crumble. My kids knew it. They knew who to ask when they wanted something, Don't ask Dad....ask Mom.

Yes, I must confess I am a reformed willow.

So, how did I go from being a willow to a mighty oak? Now, that's an easy one! I made a decision and stuck with it!

Once I recognized what I was doing, I could change. It isn't hard, in fact it has been quite easy. Why is that? Because once you draw your line in the sand and are unwilling to accept less, there is no wiggle room, no gray area, no fall-back excuse.

What's the one thing you can do right now to change your results?

Make a decision!

So, this week stand firm in your decisions. You are the mighty oak!

This Weeks Opportunity: Make 1 decision that will move you forward in your life.
