We often call each other bird brained but have you ever thought how insulting the same phrase can be with respect to your own pet birds. Obviously you have not and you undermine a bird’s capacity and intelligence when you say the same. Parrots for one, differ from this derogatory mention of their brains. A parrot’s brain actually works in ways that is simply a miracle.

It is not only intelligent but can speak when given proper training. I have seen parrots that can speak almost as fluently as you or I can and that too any language and not just English. Everybody wants their parrots to talk and if you are one who is searching for how to do so then please read on.

The secret behind training talking parrots is nothing other than repetition. Repeat and it will catch on by itself. Just like you or I need to learn a lesson many times before we can actually remember what exactly is said in it similarly parrots need to be taught repetitively. They cannot read like we can so we have to read it out for them. Start small and move towards larger aims. Training talking parrots is just like teaching a little baby how to talk; you just need patience. Try for one month and your parrot will surely speak at the end of it.

Be patient with your parrot and teach him the same words everyday. You do not have to spend hours behind your bird but just for one hour maybe do it. Make it into schedule so that your bird too falls into it. What this will trigger is the association of your coming with the words to be taught and as such it will learn faster. Also, schedules are comforting to parrots and they will not get frightened.

Further, you need to keep in mind that, during the first few days of training your parrot may not pick up any words at all so do not get angry or frustrated. Parrots are sensitive birds and they will withdraw any effort on their part if they happen to see aggravation or any other negative emotion from your side. Remember, always be patient.

A better idea about teaching your parrot to talk is objectifying the word that you want it to say. If you want it to say "sit" then perform the action while repeating the word so that it connects the two together and learns faster. Or even if it is something like "bread" or say "water" then indicate the object and repeat the word it will catch on in a few days.

One warning that I believe would be useful to you is that if your parrot is learning to talk then do not punish it if it doe snot seem to respond all of a sudden. It may just be that he is bored or sleepy or just wants to be by himself. Do not punish your pets it is not healthy for them and neither for you. Punishments are many a times the reason behind parrot bad behaviour and it is highly advisable that you do not inflict the same on your pet. Parrot Training takes time and patience
