Everybody seems to be talking about how kids and youngsters living in big cities today don’t really know what its like to have fun, play around and climb trees and mountains. From time immemorial, sports and games have played major roles in people’s everyday lives. From the ancient Egyptians, to the modern Olympics, sports have come a long way, from being merely recreational, to something that’s become occupational, professional, and has interestingly proved to be a highly lucrative business.

When we say games, what we’re not talking about video games, and stuff that doesn’t do you any physical good. Doctors today advise everybody to include some sort of sport into their routines. Swimming, basket ball, tennis, badminton, rugby, cricket, baseball, just about any of the zillion games when part of you, can do you eons of good. You don’t really have to be good at a sport to enjoy it. Although it is true that not all of us like physical exercise and find throwing a ball around a big waste of time, perhaps some of the benefits of playing sports will change your minds.

Playing sports offers you more than just physical benefits. When you play any game (remember you don’t have to be great at it), you have fun. You’re not thinking of your bills, or your job, or anything else that bothers you. When you’re fully involved in a game, that’s pretty much all you think about. Next, it makes you disciplined. No game can be played if you don’t possess a certain amount of discipline, and it stays for life.

Playing makes you happy, it brings in you a spirit of competitiveness, and if you’re playing it for the fun of it, and not in some cut throat match where your fans will thrash you if you lose, it makes it all the more interesting to win, or even lose for that matter. Let’s not forget that the generation that is currently in question, is a bunch of extremely stressed people. Sweating it out will make your heart beat faster, and effectively, bring down stress and anxiety levels, stabilize blood pressure, and give you a feeling of goodness and well being. It also teaches you team work, and teaches you to be selfless, in all its true spirit.

Ok, so you’re convinced you should be getting yourself into a sport, and you’ve decided what you want to do. So who do you play with? What if you’re an amateur who doesn’t really know the game too well, can’t really run too fast, and well, are afraid to be embarrassed? The solution is to find people like you, and have all the fun under the sun with them. So how do you find someone who’s interested in the same game as you are, maybe lives in your city so you can get together, or even someone like you in some other part of the world, who knows stuff about the game you’ve chosen – the solution is fairly simple, and hardly surprising, Social networking. Start a site of your own, and get to work, gathering people around the world, telling them how much playing benefits you, and inspire them into a healthier life.
