While posters are more often used to advertise an event (or act as a souvenir from the event), banners advertise while people are actually at the event. They can mark entrances, showcase attractions, and provide other information to those attending.
Again, being able to advertise on the banners is just a simple phone call to the person in charge of the event. You may be able to add your logo or a brief message to part of the banner in exchange for a donation or another service.
