The global economic environment is pretty gloomy. And businesses are striving hard to maintain their leaning profit margins even in the wake of tight IT budgets and limited resources. Businesses are increasingly shifting their focus from traditional media to the Internet. This is because the Internet is the most cost effective channel for advertising and marketing and provides the largest possible audience.

While many businesses are working to create their web presence, the ones who already have their websites are looking forward to revamp the same. However, what businesses fail to realize is that website development is not a one-time project. Rather, it is an ongoing process that you need to monitor constantly and make updates every three to six months so that it performs well. So, if you already have a web presence, you may just need to refresh it and infuse a couple of tweaks instead of going through the entire redesign process.

Here are some things that you can improvise your website for.

Easy and Readymade Information Apart from your loyal repeat visitors, the rest of your website traffic comes from external resources like search engines, links etc. So you never know where they would enter from. Probably they will get to the page that contains information they want and they will move on to check out your homepage. But probably they wont. Therefore, don't take any chances. Don't make your visitors hunt for information. Rather provide them with info even before they can think about it. This will make them navigate in a seamless flow and you can subtly lead them where you want them to!

Quality Content, not Quantity of Content Content is the king! But then, too much of anything can be bad. Excessive information can do more harm to your website than any good. Internet users by virtue are bad readers. They don't read entire web pages, they just scan through for the information they need. Thus it is important to focus on the quality of content rather than its quantity. It is also important to incorporate a Content Management System in the website so that clients can manage the contents easily and efficiently.

Sophisticated Design It is very tempting for designers to sprinkle the website with videos, 3D animations and graphic elements in a bid to refresh the look and feel. While videos etc. can be powerful media elements for effective communication, one should be careful not to overdo things. As with content, too much of visual elements can make the website look amateurish. That is why it is important to analyze the value addition of elements before you include them on your website. The design should look sophisticated and not overdone.

Social Media It would be sheer ignorance if you fail to harness the power of social media for your website. There are a string of social media websites like Digg, Delicious, Twitter, Facebook and so on that lets you interact with people belonging to your niche industry and share information with them. Not only can you build your brand presence here but you can also promote your website.
