After going out with my girlfriend for the past two years, I finally decided to pop the question – "Will you marry me?" I honestly didn’t think that this day would ever come. I mean, what actually wants to get married. Okay, secretly, I knew that I would eventually get married, but I never really thought it would happen until I was forty.
It’s been six years since I graduated from college, and now I started settling my career. So, it’s the perfect time to start looking at engagement rings for my girlfriend and future fiance, Carla. I can now afford to buy her a beautiful ring. But what do I get? There are so many styles to choose from! That’s crazy. Why do girls get so many options? Guys only get a limited amount of choices in terms of fashion. Maybe it’s because most guys are less picky. Luckily, Carla isn’t that high maintenance, but I do know that she deserves the best. But what do I get? I should’ve taken notes when Carla would hint about marriage by telling me about what ring settings she liked. Should I let her pick out her ring, or surprise her with an even awesome ring and make the wedding proposal magical? See, now, I’m getting all mushy. I can’t believe I’m letting you all know this part of myself, but then again, this is the internet, and all you know is my alias. Anyway, I talked to my mom and her sister and mom to get clues as to what I should get her – I embarked in a dangerous territory since she’s close to her family, and they talk a lot. I made them swear to not say or even give the slightest hint of anything. I really wanted to make this special. Well, I got this brilliant idea to take them all out to pick a ring and have some bonding time with my new family and my family together – just me and the ladies…fun.
Actually, we had a blast. They were the ones who knew where to look and where to go, and most importantly, they knew what Carla liked. Plus, if she didn’t like it, then I’m going to blame her mom and sister and also her future mother-in-law. Carla’s mom and sister told me that she liked white gold or platinum diamond engagement rings, solitaire, so that’s what we looked at. There were so many different kinds. I eventually saw this 1.5 carat diamond platinum solitaire ring with scrolls and little diamonds on the side that I think Carla would love. Carla’s mom started to tear up when she saw the ring. I would definitely say that she, my future sister-in-law, and my mom agreed that Carla would love it and that it’s the one! I must say, that I was the one who picked it out first, so I’m proud of that. The ladies did check to make sure that the diamond was of good quality, following the 4 C’s, as well, so I’m cleared of that aspect of ring shopping.
I’m really glad that my future in-laws and mother came out with me to pick out something that would symbolize my commitment to the one I love. I know that sounds corny, but so what? At least I gotta woman in my life! Now, I just have to work out the details of my proposal, and you definitely know who I’ll be consulting to help me plan this event.
