Who likes flab anyway? A trimmed and toned figure not only boasts of health but also attracts attention! And same is the case with websites. An overload of unnecessary information would just serve to turn off the visitors and make them leave altogether while a steady balance of great design elements and quality information would have them asking for more.

What is Website Flab?

Websites often try to attract visitors through self-promotional welcome messages that contain little or no information. However, these messages fail to impress the internet population who by virtue are an impatient lot. Web users search for information and that is all they need. Anything else that offers no value addition is plain ignored. No wonder then, that they simple ignore these message. However what is even worse is that this unnecessary flab can prevent users from viewing the necessary stuff!

How bad is Website Flab?

This unnecessary promotional content is actually a useless lump of filler text. It contains no information and offers no value addition for the users. While user ignorance may not harm your website, what will have an impact is when the text makes them leave your website altogether.

When you have a lot of useless information on your website, users generally skip over it and subsequently also ignore the useful information thinking of it as being useless as well. All you need to do is paste some useless text on the top of your web page and users will ignore the whole page even if the following text contains useful information. They wouldn't even care to read through. If they don't get solutions om your website, they will not waste a second to move on to someplace else where they would.

And just think about what harm you can do to your website by including useless welcome page. The users would not even enter your website and leave from the front door itself.

How to Trim the Flab?

For your website to stay in good shape, you would need shed off all the extra weight and trim all the unnecessary flab so that it contains only quality and useful information. Here are some handy tips.

Focus on Quality instead of Quantity

While writing content for your website, make sure you focus on quality rather than quantity. It is no use having 10 articles on your website if they offer no valuable information to your users. They will just add to the weight of the website and do nothing more. Instead, have 5 articles that contain unique and valuable content that offers relevant information to the users. This will get you more traffic than the 10 irrelevant ones.

Write Less but Express More

Effective communication is not about lengthy scripts, rather, it is how you say things. Users actually obtain more information when you say less. This is because general web psychology attracts them to concise content rather than long explanatory paragraphs.

Avoid Welcome Texts

The homepage if of course the welcome page of your website. However, that doesn't mean you fill that up with useless self-promotional messages. This only serves to turn off users and nothing else. Instead, focus on including relevant links on your homepage that leads to other important areas.
